About West Country Honey
Our Story
We're West Country Honey, a family-run beekeeping business based in the heart of Somerset. What started as a personal passion for bees has grown into a full beekeeping equipment shop, a raw honey producer, and a community hub for beekeepers across the South West and beyond.
We keep our own bees here in Somerset, which means everything we sell — from our protective suits to our hive tools — is chosen because we use it ourselves. We know what works in the field, and we only stock products we trust.
The Story Behind the Bee Safe Suit
Our Bee Safe suit range was born out of necessity. The founder's wife had a severe reaction to a bee sting and ended up in A&E — a frightening experience that changed the way we thought about protective clothing. We spent a full year researching, testing, and designing our own range of protective suits, determined to create something that offered genuine protection without compromising on comfort or practicality.
The result is the Bee Safe range — suits we're proud to put our name on and that we wear ourselves every time we open a hive.
Helping New Beekeepers
We believe beekeeping should be accessible to everyone, and we're passionate about helping newcomers get started with confidence. That's why we offer:
- Bee Experience Days — hands-on sessions where you can work with real bees under the guidance of experienced beekeepers
- Free advice over the phone — call us on 07718 226733 and we'll happily talk you through any questions, whether you're just starting out or troubleshooting a problem
- Hive assembly service — we can assemble your equipment so it's ready to go from day one
Our Somerset Honey
We produce and sell our own West Country raw honey, harvested from our Somerset apiaries. Raw honey is unheated and unfiltered, preserving all the natural enzymes, pollen, and goodness that makes it so special. When you buy our honey, you're getting something truly local — made by bees foraging the wildflowers and hedgerows of the Somerset countryside.
